Accessibility

Accessibility at The Suit Depot

Whatever you’re using to read this, we want you to be able to book a fitting here and find your way to the store. Here’s how we build for that, and what we know isn’t right yet. Something in your way? The end of this page tells you how to reach a person.

The standard we hold the site to

We build to WCAG 2.2, Level AA. WCAG is the international standard for accessible websites, and AA is the level a site is normally measured against. Version 2.2 is the current one. Accessibility rules in the United States and Europe point to earlier versions, and 2.2 builds on those.

In practice, on every page here:

  • Every page starts with a skip link, and whatever you focus gets a visible outline.
  • We measure text contrast from what’s actually drawn on screen, not from the color palette. When the tools can’t settle it, a person looks at it.
  • If your device is set to reduce motion, the background videos stop on a still frame, and we keep other motion to what’s needed.
  • Nothing plays sound on its own.
  • On a screen as narrow as 320 pixels, the page still fits, with no sideways scrolling and no text running off the edge. Widen the text spacing past what the standard asks for, and nothing gets cut off.
  • Images carry a description, or are marked decorative so a screen reader skips them.
  • Headings are real headings, so the page can be read as an outline.

Automated accessibility checks run when we release changes to the site, and we look at what they find before an update goes live.

The button in the corner

The accessibility button opens a short panel of settings: larger text, reduced motion, higher contrast and underlined links. Your choice is saved in your browser on this device and takes effect before the page appears.

It isn’t a third-party accessibility overlay. It doesn’t change what a screen reader hears from the page, and turning a setting off puts the page back the way it was. The work is in the pages themselves. The panel is a convenience on top.

What we know isn’t perfect

The map on our contact and service-area pages comes from Google, so making it accessible is up to Google, not us. Every page also gives the address in plain text, with a link that opens directions. You don’t need the map to find us.

This statement covers this site. It doesn’t cover our online shop or our social profiles, which run on other companies’ platforms.

If you find something else that isn’t working, we’d like to hear about it. What’s above is the list as of the date at the end of this statement.

Telling us about a problem

Call (248) 982-2101 or email hello@thesuitdepot.com. It helps to say which page you were on and what you were using: a screen reader, keyboard only, zoom, a phone. A sentence describing what went wrong is enough.

If the site itself is what’s in your way, call the store. A person will help you directly.
