Berkley’s downtown runs along Twelve Mile between Greenfield and Coolidge, and from either of those roads our floor is south. Most of our map plans a suit around one trip, because the second one is a freeway. A Berkley man can afford two, and the second trip is where a good suit becomes a suit that fits like it was made for him.
The first trip
Buy the suit, get it pinned. Roman, master tailor at Lincoln Tailor, on site in our store, can often do the hem while you wait when it’s the only job, and marks the rest: the sleeves, the waist, the sides.
The second trip
For bigger work, Roman quotes the job and confirms the completion date before he starts, so you know which evening the suit comes back finished, and this is the trip most men skip. Put it on again. Wear it for ten minutes, sit down in it, and let Roman see it moving. A quarter inch on a sleeve that only shows when you reach for something is a second-trip find, and from Berkley the second trip is nothing.
What that buys
A suit that was fitted twice, once standing still and once living in it. Nobody on our floor is on commission, so nobody minds a man who comes back for one more look; that’s the whole point of a tailor in the same building as the rack.
