The Village Theater at Cherry Hill, at 50400 Cherry Hill Road, is a 400-seat performing and visual arts center that runs theater, dance, concerts, multicultural events, classes and exhibitions. Most advice about what to wear assumes you’re the one being looked at. In a theater you aren’t, and that reverses several of the usual rules.
You’re seen arriving and leaving
For a couple of hours in between, nobody can see you at all. The dress decision is really about two crowded lobbies and an interval, which is a lower-stakes problem than men treat it as.
But you’re sitting for the rest
In a fixed seat, for a long stretch, with an arm rest either side. This is where a jacket cut tight across the back becomes a genuine irritation, and where a rise that sits below the waist works its way down over two hours.
So dress for the seat, not the lobby
A jacket with enough room across the upper back to sit comfortably, worn open. Signature Wool, $259 to $299, is ample for an evening like this, and Roman, master tailor at Lincoln Tailor, on site in our store, can take a jacket in elsewhere while leaving that room where you need it.
