Renting formalwear gets discussed as though it were a compromise, the choice you make when you can’t afford the real one. For a substantial number of men it is simply correct, and a shop that sells both ought to be willing to say when.
When renting is the right answer
One black-tie event, no others on the horizon, no reason to expect any. Buying a tuxedo for that is buying a garment that will hang unworn until it no longer fits, which is worse value than renting at any price.
When it stops being the right answer
Somewhere around several events a year, and the exact crossing point depends on prices you can see side by side on our floor. Nobody on our floor is on commission, so nobody has a reason to count your invitations for you.
What doesn’t change either way
The fitting. A rented tuxedo fitted in person is indistinguishable from an owned one in a photograph; a rented tuxedo sized from a chart is obvious to everyone. Roman, master tailor at Lincoln Tailor, on site in our store, pins the trousers to the shoes you brought.
Also for Canton: Three High Schools on One Campus, and a Shared Spring. More on tuxedo rentals, or plan your visit to our Oak Park showroom.
