Greenfield Village, the outdoor half of The Henry Ford, marries couples among garden courtyards and streets built to look like another century. There are horse-drawn carriages and Model Ts in the frame. Everything in the photograph is in costume except the two of you, and your job is to look like the one thing in the picture that belongs to now.
Modern, not period
The temptation is a nod to the setting: a three-piece, a heavier check, something that looks at home beside a carriage. Don’t. The village is the period piece. Dress toward it and you turn into an extra. A clean two-button in a plain dark cloth reads as the man the day is about.
Outdoors, in daylight
A village wedding is daylight and wind. A jacket fitted close through the shoulder has nothing for the wind to lift; a cloth with a matte face takes the sun without a glare. Signature Wool, $259 to $299, in navy or a mid gray, is the tier for it.
Cobbles and the hem
The streets aren’t smooth. A trouser cut long enough to drag will find every seam in a nineteenth-century road, so the length is set short of trouble. Roman, master tailor at Lincoln Tailor, on site in our store, pins you and everyone standing up with you to the shoes you all bring; ask about group pricing for parties of five or more.
