Ford Field seats about 65,000 people. Whatever happens on the field, nobody in the upper bowl can tell what anyone down there is wearing beyond the broadest color. It’s a useful corrective for a subject that encourages people to imagine themselves under permanent examination.
Almost nobody is looking
Men worry about clothes as though a room were studying them. It isn’t. Most people register an overall impression in about a second and then think about themselves, which is what everyone else is doing too.
What that second registers
Not price, and not brand. Whether the clothes appear to belong to the person wearing them, which is almost entirely a question of fit and almost not at all a question of money.
Which is oddly freeing
In most situations, an inexpensive suit that fits well will make a stronger impression than an expensive one that does not. That’s the whole of it, and it’s why the alterations matter more than the tier: Roman, master tailor at Lincoln Tailor, on site in our store, quotes each job before he starts.
