The Detroit Masonic Temple holds two ballrooms of different sizes: the Crystal, taking around 350 for a reception with a dance floor, and the Fountain, taking around 550. Couples often choose between them on price and availability and treat the choice as neutral for everything else. It isn’t.
Two hundred guests is a different evening
At 350 a groom can genuinely speak to most of the room. At 550 he cannot, and the night becomes a sequence of brief encounters rather than conversations. Neither is worse. They ask different things of him.
What each asks of the suit
The smaller room rewards finish, because people get close enough to see it. The larger one rewards silhouette and the stamina of the fit, because he will be on his feet moving continuously and never sit down properly.
The stamina part is a fitting question
A jacket that’s comfortable standing still for ten minutes can be genuinely tiring across five hours. Ask for it to be checked with your arms forward, as though greeting someone, and let Roman, master tailor at Lincoln Tailor, on site in our store, put the room where you need it.
