Incorporated on January 7, 1929 as East Detroit, this city became Eastpointe on July 1, 1992. The stated reason was straightforward: the old name kept being confused with Detroit, and a community that is constantly mistaken for somewhere else never quite gets to be itself. Changing a name is an unusual and slightly awkward thing for a city to do, and they did it anyway.
Being mistaken for something else is a real cost
It’s worth taking seriously in a subject as full of near-misses as clothing, where a great many men spend their lives being read as slightly wrong without ever finding out why.
The commonest misreading
A suit that is his size but was never fitted. It reads as borrowed, or as belonging to a heavier man, and nobody says anything because it isn’t rude enough to mention. He simply gets a slightly different response than he expected, permanently.
What corrects it
