Corewell Health Farmington Hills has been Botsford to the Hills since 1965, and it’s the base teaching hospital for Michigan State’s osteopathic college: 330 beds, a Level II trauma center, and a building full of white coats. A white coat covers a suit jacket. For most of the day, what a physician actually shows is a shirt collar, trousers and shoes.
Above the coat and below it
The collar first. A shirt collar bought for the neck it’s on stands up inside the coat; one bought a size up for comfort folds over. Then the trousers, which the coat stops at the knee: the rise has to hold at the waist for a long day without a belt fighting it, and the hem has to break once on a shoe you can stand in. The jacket can wait on a hook. Those three can’t.
The jacket’s one night a month
The jacket spends most of its life on a hook and comes down for the nights that count, and on those nights it has to look worn in, in the good sense: fitted through the shoulder to him, navy or charcoal, plain, Signature Wool at $259 to $299, so it sits right the first night it goes on.
Bring the shoes you round in
The hem is set to them, and Roman, master tailor at Lincoln Tailor, on site in our store, can often do it while you wait. Bring the coat too if you like. The trousers are hemmed either way.
