The Farmington, the largest room at Farmington Hills Manor, seats 600, and 600 seats make a long aisle. You walk it once with everyone looking, and for most of that walk they’re looking at your back. Nobody fits a suit from behind. The room does.
The collar
From behind, a collar that stands away from the neck is the first thing that reads, and it reads as borrowed. A jacket fitted to your shoulders sits close at the collar without a hand to hold it there. That’s a fit decision made at the mirror, with the consultant behind you, and it’s the one to insist on.
The vent and the seat
A jacket that’s tight across the seat spreads its vent open on every step. One that fits lies flat. The same goes for the trousers: a seat that’s been let out to fit hangs clean; one that’s been squeezed pulls across. Ask to see yourself walking away from the mirror, not just toward it.
The shoulders, one more time
From the front, a shoulder seam an inch past the bone is a flaw. From behind, it’s the whole silhouette. A rack that runs 34 short to 70 long, portly included, means the shoulder that fits is on it, and Roman, master tailor at Lincoln Tailor, on site in our store, does the rest.
