A custom suit is two or three fittings, on a calendar the cloth and the fittings decide, and for most of our map each fitting is a freeway. From downtown Ferndale it’s a straight run west on Nine Mile, and that changes what a groom can do with the calendar. He can come in for a fitting on the way to something else, and wherever the last one lands on the calendar, it’s a short run rather than a lost morning. Ask Ben for the current timeline for your date, and plan the fittings around it.
The first visit
Ben takes twenty measurements himself, and the consultant lays out the cloth: bolts from Reda, Zegna, VBC, Marzotto and Style Biella. A Ferndale groom marrying in a room like the Rust Belt Market should look at the ones with a visible weave. Tell the consultant the room and the month and the weight follows.
The middle fittings
This is where the suit becomes his: the shoulder checked against his actual slope, the sleeve against his arm, the trouser against the shoes he brought. A groom who can drop in on a weekday evening gets these right without rushing them, and rushing is the only thing that goes wrong with custom.
The last fitting
Roman, master tailor at Lincoln Tailor, on site in our store, does the final pass. Custom starts at $599, and the suit that comes out of it is cut to the twenty numbers Ben took, which is the whole difference between custom and a rack suit altered toward you.
