The city takes its name from Colonel Jean François Hamtramck, 1756 to 1803, a man who has been dead for more than two centuries and whose name is spoken thousands of times a day by people who know nothing about him. Names outlast their owners. So, in a smaller way, do wedding photographs.
Which is the only real argument about a wedding suit
Not the day itself, which passes quickly and is mostly remembered as a feeling. The pictures, which are looked at by people who weren’t born when they were taken, and which are the only part of the event that anybody sees twice.
What ages badly in them
Never the color and never the cloth. The proportions: an unusual lapel width, a jacket cut noticeably short, a fit that belonged to one particular five-year stretch. Those date a photograph immediately.
What doesn’t
Navy or charcoal, ordinary proportions, and a suit that follows the man wearing it. That has been correct since before the Colonel died and will be correct after everyone in the photograph is gone. Roman, master tailor at Lincoln Tailor, on site in our store, handles the following-the-man part.
