From the I-75 side of Nine Mile, our showroom is a straight run west. No freeway interchange, no downtown to cross, one road. That sounds like a small thing and it isn’t, because buying a suit properly means coming back, and whether a man comes back is decided almost entirely by how annoying the route is.
Why coming back matters
The first visit produces a suit that has been pinned. The second produces a suit that has been finished and then checked on the body, which is when the last quarter inch gets found. Men who skip the second visit own suits that are nearly right, and nearly right is visible in photographs for as long as the photographs exist.
What can be settled on which visit
Roman, master tailor at Lincoln Tailor, on site in our store, can often do a small job while you wait, so some suits genuinely finish in one trip. For bigger work, he quotes the job and confirms the completion date before he starts, so you know which visit settles it before you leave.
What to carry
The shoes, every time. A length cut to the wrong heel is the single most common reason a suit needs a third visit, and it’s entirely avoidable by putting a pair in the car.
