A black-tie invitation reaches Keego Harbor the same as anywhere, and a town of 2,800 people answers it the same two ways. Order a tuxedo from a chart and it arrives sized to a number. Drive to a mirror and it’s sized to you. That is the whole reason for the drive.
What a number gets wrong
A chart knows your chest and your height. It doesn’t know that one shoulder sits lower, that your arms are long for your height, or that the shoes you’ll wear have a heel the trousers were never hemmed for. At the mirror a consultant sees all three in a minute and the jacket that’s wrong comes off before it’s yours for the night.
Rent or own
One black-tie night a year: rent. If the cards come every season, a tuxedo of your own, fitted once by Roman, master tailor at Lincoln Tailor, on site in our store, is the last time you think about it. Nobody on our floor is on commission, so nobody counts your invitations for you.
Three weeks out
Come in three weeks before the date with the shoes. The hem is a small job Roman can often do while you wait; for anything bigger he quotes the job and confirms the completion date before he starts, and three weeks out gives that date somewhere to land.
