Trinity Health Livonia is 304 beds and a Level II trauma center, founded by the Felician Sisters in 1959, and a good part of the building wears scrubs. A man who has worn scrubs for twenty years knows his scrub size and nothing else. When a wedding or a department dinner finally requires a suit, he walks onto a floor of 32,000 of them and honestly doesn’t know where to start.
Start with a tape
The consultant measures him before pulling anything: chest, waist, the length of the arm, the drop between chest and waist. Five minutes with a tape turns 32,000 suits into the twenty in his size, and the twenty into the three worth trying. That’s the whole reason to buy a suit from a floor with a person on it.
What scrubs have hidden
Usually a drop. A man who lifts patients has a chest that outgrew his waist, and a suit cut in the standard proportion fits the chest or the waist, never both. Select suits on our floor sell as separates, the jacket in one size and the trousers in another, and that solves it at the rack.
The suit for a man who owns one
Navy, plain, Signature Wool at $259 to $299, because it will be the only suit and has to go everywhere. Roman, master tailor at Lincoln Tailor, on site in our store, hems it to the shoes he brings, and a hem is a small job he can often do while you wait.
