When the present Madison High School was built in 1958, the building it replaced didn’t come down. It became Wilkinson Middle School and went on working. That’s the sensible way to treat something well made that no longer suits its first purpose, and it’s a decent way to think about a suit that has stopped fitting the life it was bought for.
The wedding suit that’s now a work suit
Bought for one Saturday, worn once, then hung up. It can absolutely become the suit worn to things that matter during the week, and usually all it needs is to be brought closer to the body than a rental-minded fit allowed.
The work suit that’s now the funeral suit
The harder direction, because a suit worn two hundred days a year shows it at the elbows and the seat. This is where an honest answer matters more than an alteration, and the answer sometimes is that it has done its work.
Who decides which
Put it on in front of Roman, master tailor at Lincoln Tailor, on site in our store. He’ll say what’s worth doing: small jobs he can often do while you wait, and on anything bigger he quotes the job and confirms the completion date before he starts.
