Mill Race Village sits beside Ford Field in Northville, which puts open ground and old buildings within a few steps of each other. Any group photographed there will be photographed outdoors, in daylight, and daylight is a different medium from the warm indoor light most men have quietly chosen their clothes under.
What daylight does
It reveals color honestly and it is unforgiving about sheen. A cloth that looked richly dark under store lighting can read a shade lighter and slightly shiny outdoors, and a group in mixed cloths that looked uniform indoors can separate visibly into two or three different blacks.
The practical safeguard
Carry the cloth to a window before deciding. It takes a minute, any consultant will do it, and it settles a question that otherwise gets answered permanently by a photographer.
And keep the group on one bolt
Mixed sources are what produce the mismatch, so the whole party comes off a single bolt on a single order, and the groom should ask about group pricing for parties of five or more. Nobody loses his own build to that: each is fitted separately, and Roman, master tailor at Lincoln Tailor, on site in our store, pins the lengths to the shoes they’ll stand on grass in.
