Twelve Oaks Mall has stood at I-96 and Novi Road since 1977 with more than 170 stores and restaurants inside it, and for most things that’s the right kind of place to shop. A suit is the exception, and the reason is arithmetic. A store that sells everything carries a rack of suits. A store that sells suits carries 32,000 of them.
What depth means at the mirror
It means the size that fits you is on the rack in more than one cloth and more than one cut. A 46 long here has its own run of hangers, and so does a 34 short and so does a portly. You try on five in your size and take home the one that fit best. At a store with one rack of suits, you take home the one they had.
What it means for the price
All three tiers are on this floor, $139 to $159, $259 to $299, $300 to $500, and nobody on our floor is on commission. So the consultant who walks you from one to the next gets nothing for stopping at the expensive end. He asks what the suit is for, and the answer decides the tier.
What it means for the fit
You don’t leave the building to get it altered. Roman, master tailor at Lincoln Tailor, on site in our store, pins the hem while you’re still standing in the suit, and small jobs he can often do while you wait. Separates, a jacket in one size and trousers in another, are the part of the floor we’re proudest of, and for a lot of men they’re the fit before Roman touches a pin. From the mall it’s I-96 to I-696 east, off at Greenfield.
