From the late 1970s until December 2016, the Strand did nothing at all. It wasn’t demolished and it wasn’t used. Then a reason appeared, the work was done, and it became a working theater again. Almost every man reading this owns something in the same condition: a suit that hasn’t been worn in years and hasn’t been thrown out either.
What keeps it hanging there
Usually not sentiment. Uncertainty. He doesn’t know whether it still fits, and finding out requires putting it on, which he suspects will be discouraging, so he doesn’t.
The wedding is the reason
An invitation with a date on it is exactly the forcing function the Strand needed, and the sensible response is to find out early rather than the week before. Put it on the day the card arrives.
Then one of two things happens
It’s adjustable, and Roman, master tailor at Lincoln Tailor, on site in our store, handles it: small jobs he can often do while you wait, and for bigger ones he quotes the job and confirms the completion date before he starts. Or it isn’t, and you have weeks rather than days to buy properly.
