The Redford Theatre opened in January 1928 operating for the Kunsky chain. The chain belongs to history and the building is still standing, which is the ordinary pattern: the organization goes and the well-made physical thing remains, usually doing something its builders never imagined.
Weddings work this way too
The event is enormous while it’s being planned and brief when it happens. What persists is a set of photographs, looked at by people who weren’t there and eventually by people who weren’t born.
Which is the only useful test for the suit
Not whether it impresses the guests, who will have forgotten by the following weekend. Whether it looks right in a photograph in thirty years, and that comes down to proportion and fit rather than to anything that can be spent on.
What survives that test
Dark, plain, ordinary lapel, ordinary length, cut to the man. Half-canvassed at $300 to $500 holds that shape through the day and the decade, and Roman, master tailor at Lincoln Tailor, on site in our store, does the cutting-to-the-man part.
