Rochester is a small city with a walkable downtown, largely surrounded by a much bigger municipality. A wedding that starts here almost always draws from both: people who live within a few blocks of Main Street, and people who live several miles out and drive in. Those two groups arrive with quietly different assumptions about how dressed up an evening is meant to be, and they’re both sure they’re right.
The mismatch you can see
Downtown guests tend to dress for a short walk to a familiar place. Guests from further out have made an evening of it and dress accordingly. In the same room the difference is visible, and the wedding party is the one thing that can settle the tone for everyone.
So the party sets it deliberately
Dress the party a notch more formally than you think the room will be, and the room rises to meet it. Dress it a notch below and the whole evening drifts downward, which nobody planned and everyone notices in the photographs.
Doing it in one pass
All the men on a single order, one bolt; ask about group pricing for parties of five or more. Each is fitted to himself afterward. Roman, master tailor at Lincoln Tailor, on site in our store, handles the lengths, to the shoes each man brings in.
