Northland opened in 1954, and for sixty years a Southfield boy’s first suit came from one of its department floors. Most of it came down in 2021. The men who remember being measured there are in their fifties and sixties now, and there is nowhere left to go and just try things on.
There is
Thirty-two thousand suits, 34 short to 70 long, portly included, at the same price. A floor on Greenfield Road where you take the hanger down yourself.
What is the same, and what is better
The same: a person measures you. A consultant on our floor, not a form on a screen, and nobody is on commission. Better: the tailor is in the building. Roman, master tailor at Lincoln Tailor, is on site in our store and pins the suit the day you choose it. Basic alterations are often available the same day, depending on the garment and current workload.
From the old Northland site it is Ten Mile east past the Evergreen corridor, and the showroom is on the right past the Lincoln Shopping Center. Bring your son.
Also for Southfield: Sworn In at the Civic Center: A Suit for a Public Moment. More on style consulting, or plan your visit to our Oak Park showroom.
