French settlers were in this area as early as 1710 and called it L’anse Creuse. Subdivisions were platted through the farmland over the following centuries, but most of them sat undeveloped until after the Second World War, when St. Clair Shores became the fastest-growing suburb of Detroit in the 1950s. Two hundred and forty years of very little, then a decade of everything.
Things wait a long time and then happen quickly
Which is also how most men experience needing a suit. Years of not owning one and not thinking about it, and then a fortnight in which a wedding, a funeral and an interview all arrive.
The response to that is not speed
It’s having something ready. A single navy suit, bought unhurriedly at some point when nothing was pending, fitted properly and hanging in a closet, converts that fortnight from a crisis into an inconvenience.
What it costs to have one waiting
An Everyday Classic at $139 to $159 will do it if the occasions are occasional; Signature Wool at $259 to $299 if there’ll be more of them. The tier matters less than the fact that it already exists when the call comes.
