The Century Banquet Center in Sterling Heights holds five hundred. Every wedding of that size contains an hour almost nobody plans for, and it isn’t the ceremony or the dancing. It’s the receiving of five hundred people, one at a time, on your feet, in the same position, being embraced repeatedly.
What that hour does to a jacket
It tests the one thing a mirror never shows: how a suit behaves when arms come up and forward, over and over. A jacket cut close enough to look sharp standing still can bind badly across the back on the fiftieth embrace, and by the two hundredth the groom has stopped buttoning it.
The fitting that catches it
Ask the consultant to check the jacket with your arms crossed in front of you, as though reaching around someone. It’s an odd request and it takes ten seconds and it is worth asking for at a fitting for a wedding this size.
What it usually changes
A little more room across the upper back, which costs nothing in appearance and everything in comfort. Roman, master tailor at Lincoln Tailor, on site in our store, is the one who makes that adjustment.
