A graduating class from a school that size is large enough that the ceremony is a procession: a name read, a few seconds on a stage, a handshake, gone. Families spend on the suit as though the ceremony were the event. It isn’t, and understanding that changes what to buy.
What the ceremony actually shows
From the audience, at that distance, under a gown, almost nothing. A collar, a hem, shoes. The suit is essentially invisible for the occasion it was ostensibly bought for.
What comes after is the real audience
The graduation parties, the summer weddings, the first interview, the first job. Those are close-range, ungowned, and repeated, and that is where a suit either works or embarrasses him.
Buy for the summer, not the stage
