A substantial number of people here work hours that don’t align with ordinary retail: afternoons, nights, rotations. The standard advice about buying a suit quietly assumes a weekday afternoon is available, and when it isn’t, men default to ordering online, which is where the fit problems begin.
Compress rather than skip
The parts that genuinely require you present are the measurement and the fitting. Everything else, the deciding and the thinking, can happen beforehand. Arrive knowing the occasion, the rough budget and the date, and the in-person part is short.
Front-load the information
Say the deadline at the start. It changes what Roman, master tailor at Lincoln Tailor, on site in our store, takes on: small jobs he can often do while you wait, and for bigger work he quotes the job and confirms the completion date before he starts, which only helps if he knows the date you’re working back from.
And bring the objects
Shoes, and the shirt if it exists. A suit is fitted to physical things, and a trip made around an awkward shift shouldn’t be spent discovering that the wrong shoes were in the car.
