Southland Center opened on July 20, 1970 at 23000 Eureka Road, built around a three-level Hudson’s of roughly 272,000 square feet, with a Woolworth’s and a Kroger as junior anchors and a two-screen cinema following within weeks. By the mid-1970s Kroger had built across Eureka Road, and JCPenney moved into the vacated space in 1976.
Six years to substantially different
That’s a fast turnover for something built to last decades, and it’s normal. Retail arrangements change far quicker than the buildings that hold them or the habits of the people who use them.
Which is worth remembering about clothes
The shops a man buys from will change several times across his adult life. What doesn’t change is what makes a suit work, which has been the same for a century: the shoulder, the closure, the length of the sleeve and the break of the trouser.
So learn the four rather than a shop
Those four can be checked anywhere, by anyone, in about a minute, and they matter more than where the suit came from. Roman, master tailor at Lincoln Tailor, on site in our store, is who fixes three of the four.
