Troy High School on Northfield Parkway has been graduating seniors since 1950; Athens High School on John R opened in 1974 and the two have been rivals ever since. What the rivalry doesn’t change is the rack. Both schools hold a prom, both classes shop in the month before, and a 38 regular tuxedo is a 38 regular whichever school he goes to.
The three-week rule
Come in three weeks before the date. Not because the fitting takes long, but because a boy who comes in the week of prom has no room for a second visit when the shoe changes or the trouser needs more than a hem.
Rent, or buy the navy
If prom is the only formal night on his calendar, rent, fitted in person on our floor. If commencement and a graduation party follow within the month, a navy suit from the Everyday Classics tier, $139 to $159, does all three with a change of tie and it’s in the closet for a first job.
Bring the shoe
Roman, master tailor at Lincoln Tailor, on site in our store, cuts the trouser to the shoe he will wear that night. Bring the shoe. The actual shoe, not the one he means to buy.
