The Walled Lake district runs three high schools: Central on Oakley Park Road, Western on Beck Road since 1969, and Northern on Bogie Lake Road since 2003. Three proms, one spring, and the seniors from all three end up asking the same question at our counter. Rent or buy, and either way, how not to look like the rental.
Rent it fitted
A rental chosen at a mirror is sized to him, the jacket to his shoulders and the trousers hemmed to the shoes he brings. A rental from a size chart is sized to a number. In the photograph on the lawn, the sleeves tell everyone which was which.
Or buy the suit
If the night isn’t black tie, a navy suit he owns does prom, graduation and the summer weddings after. An Everyday Classic, $139 to $159, for a boy still growing; Signature Wool, $259 to $299, if he’s done. Nobody on our floor is on commission, so nobody sells a rental to a boy who should buy or a suit to one who should rent.
Three weeks out
Pontiac Trail to M-5, M-5 to I-696 east, off at Greenfield, three weeks before the date, with the shoes. Roman, master tailor at Lincoln Tailor, on site in our store, pins the hem to them, and a hem is a small job he can often do while you wait.
