The Technical Center’s grounds were laid out by Thomas Church, one of the significant landscape architects of the century, and the campus was designed so people move between buildings through open, designed space. Anybody visiting on business ends up walking outdoors between meetings, which is a small thing that a suit either handles or doesn’t.
What outdoor walking exposes
Wind and daylight, in that order. Spare cloth through the body that looks like comfort indoors becomes something the wind takes hold of, and daylight reports the color of a cloth honestly rather than flatteringly.
Which argues for two things
A jacket cut close enough through the body that there’s nothing loose to catch, and a cloth checked in daylight before it’s bought. Carrying the bolt to a window takes a minute and prevents a permanent surprise.
And one more
An overcoat rather than a heavier suit, for the months that need it. Dressing the suit for outdoors leaves you overdressed for every room at either end of the walk, which is the more common of the two mistakes.
