Somewhere in the closet is the suit from a wedding at one of the lake clubs, three summers ago. Worn twice since. A little tighter than it was. Now another date’s coming, and the question is whether it can be brought back. Usually yes, with limits.
What can be done
A waist let out or taken in, a seat adjusted, sleeves shortened or lengthened, a hem reset for new shoes, a jacket taken in through the sides. Roman, master tailor at Lincoln Tailor, on site in our store, does all of it. Bring the suit, and he pins it on you at the mirror.
What can’t
The shoulder. If the jacket was bought a size up and the shoulder seam sits past the bone, no tailor moves it, and it’s time for a new jacket. The trousers can stay; the jacket can be replaced on its own.
What it costs in time
Small jobs he can often do while you wait. For a let-out waist or a reshaped jacket he quotes the job and confirms the completion date before he starts, so bring it in the week the invitation arrives, not the week of the wedding.
