Allen Park High School was established in 1950. Before that, students from the district traveled to Detroit Southwestern, to Lincoln Park High or to Melvindale. The city reached a size where sending its children elsewhere stopped making sense, and built its own.
Growing past the point of borrowing
That’s a threshold most institutions cross and most individuals do too. A young man borrows a suit from his father or a cousin for the first two occasions that need one, and at some point that stops working, usually because the fit was always approximate and he has noticed.
When to stop borrowing
When there are three or more occasions a year, which for most men starts around eighteen and never really stops. At that frequency a borrowed near-fit costs more in how he is seen than a cheap suit that fits.
What his own costs
