The Daxton Hotel has 6,000 square feet of event space and a modern eye. Stand in it in a boxy, generous suit and you look like you wandered in from another decade.
Trim, not tight
The cut for a modern room is closer to the body than a classic suit and nowhere near as close as a fashion one. A jacket that follows the chest and stops at the seat, a trouser with a slight taper and a single clean break, a lapel of ordinary width. Trim is a silhouette. Tight is a size too small, and a photographer can tell.
Color under hotel light
Under hotel light, midnight blue looks richer than black and charcoal looks richer than either. Save black for a tuxedo and a room with chandeliers.
Getting the silhouette right
The silhouette is mostly the tailor’s work. A consultant picks the size, and Roman, master tailor at Lincoln Tailor, on site in our store, takes the waist in, sets the sleeve short enough to show cuff, and gives the trouser its taper. That is basic work on a suit that fits at the shoulder, and it is often done the same day, depending on the garment and current workload.
