Dinner on Old Woodward and a film at the Birmingham 8, the art deco cinema in the middle of downtown, is the standard Birmingham evening, and a man dresses for it somewhere between a suit and a sweater. Most miss on the low side. The fix is a jacket that looks easy and is fitted like it was not.
The unstructured jacket
A jacket with little or no padding in the shoulder and a soft chest, in navy or a dark tweed, over a knit or an open-collared shirt, with gray or dark trousers. It looks easy because the work is inside, where nobody sees it.
Why it still needs the tailor
An unstructured jacket hides nothing at the sleeve or the length, so those two have to be right: a quarter inch of cuff at the wrist, the hem covering the seat. Roman, master tailor at Lincoln Tailor, on site in our store, sets both as basic work, on a jacket from our floor or on one you already own. That is often same-day work, depending on the garment and current workload.
Separates
The jacket and the trousers come from different rails on purpose, in your two sizes.
