Plenty of Birmingham works from an office on Maple in a sweater most of the week and then has a client day. On a client day the suit is on from a breakfast on Old Woodward to a dinner downtown, and it is the only suit they own.
One suit that does the whole day
Navy, in a wool that breathes, from the Signature Wool tier at $259 to $299. A blue shirt in the morning, a white one in the car for the evening. A tie that comes off at four without the collar collapsing, which means a shirt one size closer to the neck than feels natural.
The mistake of the part-time suit
Because it’s worn rarely, it gets bought once and never refitted, and the body changes under it. Bring it back yearly. Roman, master tailor at Lincoln Tailor, on site in our store, takes a waist in or lets it out. That’s basic work, often the same day, depending on the garment and current workload. A suit that fits this year’s shape is worth more than a new one that fits last year’s.
