The Townsend opened in 1988, and a wedding there is a weekend. Friday is the rehearsal dinner in the Clancy Room or the Regency Room; Saturday is the ballroom for three hundred. Everybody plans Saturday down to the cufflinks and turns up on Friday in whatever was clean.
Friday is the softer suit
A rehearsal dinner is family and the wedding party, in a smaller room, at a table. A navy suit worn without a tie, or a sport coat over gray trousers, looks like a host rather than a groom. It should be a suit you already own and like, so that Saturday’s is the one nobody has seen.
Saturday is the one you built
Three hundred people and a photographer. A charcoal or a midnight blue, from the Half-Canvassed Luxury tier at $300 to $500 or custom from $599 if the date allows two to three fittings. Bought to be worn again, because a suit that good isn’t a one-night garment.
One fitting for both
Bring both to us. Roman, master tailor at Lincoln Tailor, on site in our store, fits Saturday’s suit from scratch and sets Friday’s sleeves and hems so it looks intended.
