Old Woodward does its shopping on Saturday. We’re closed on Saturdays, and a Birmingham reader deserves to know that before the drive, not at the door.
Why Sunday is better anyway
The Birmingham Farmers Market runs Sunday mornings from May to October. We open at noon on Sunday and stay to six. Do the market, drive south on Woodward and west on I-696 to Greenfield, and you’re on our floor with a consultant. A fitting takes about forty-five minutes and nobody is on commission.
The rest of the week
Monday through Wednesday to seven, Thursday to eight, Friday to six. Roman, master tailor at Lincoln Tailor, on site in our store, does the basics, often the same day, depending on the garment and current workload.
What to bring on a Sunday
Three things, in order of how much trouble each one saves. Shoes, the actual pair, since a length is cut to a heel and not to an idea of one. A shirt, if the shirt is already chosen, since a sleeve is judged against its cuff. Then the party, whoever of it can come, because men measured in the same hour go onto a single order and five of them earn a discount. Walk in, or book ahead and a consultant will be free when you arrive.
