Cranbrook School for Boys opened in 1927, and Cranbrook Schools is a boarding and day school, and its boarders come from a long way off. When a formal comes up on the calendar, a sixteen-year-old who has never bought a suit is doing it with a parent on a video call from another state, or another country, and a card that has a limit.
How we handle the call
Put the parent on the phone and hand it to the consultant. The consultant measures him on the floor, says what fits and what it costs, and the parent decides. Nobody here is on commission, so there’s nothing on the call but the sizes and the price.
The suit that covers a school year
Navy, from the Everyday Classics tier at $139 to $159 or the Signature Wool tier at $259 to $299 if the parent wants it to last past graduation. A white shirt and a blue one. A tie that goes with both. It covers the formal and the awards night in one purchase.
Often same day, because he has a curfew
Roman, master tailor at Lincoln Tailor, on site in our store, does hems and sleeves as basic work, often the same day, depending on the garment and current workload, so the suit goes back to campus with him rather than a week later. From Cranbrook it is Woodward south, I-696 west, off at Greenfield.
