The service is in the morning and the party is at night, and at Forest Lake Country Club the party is in one of five banquet rooms with a dance floor and a hundred of the boy’s friends. The suit that stood on the bimah at nine-thirty is not the outfit for a room like that at eight. He needs a second one, and so, if he’s honest, does his father.
The boy’s evening
A jacket he can dance in: navy, soft in the shoulder, over a shirt with the collar open by then. Trousers he will not split. Shoes he can move in. It is the outfit in the video, so it has to survive three hours and a conga line.
The father’s evening
He gives the toast, and the toast is on video too. A navy suit rather than the charcoal from the morning, or the same suit with the tie changed and a pocket square added, which is the cheaper and often better answer.
One visit for both
Bring the boy and the father together. A consultant fits both on the floor and Roman, master tailor at Lincoln Tailor, on site in our store, sets the hems and sleeves, with something left in the boy’s seams for the growth spurt that is coming. Come in a month before the date.
Also for Bloomfield Hills: Temple Beth El: A Suit for the Days of Awe. More on style consulting, or plan your visit to our Oak Park showroom.
