Kirk in the Hills on West Long Lake Road was founded in 1951, finished in 1958, and patterned on Melrose Abbey. It is Gothic stone with a long nave. A groom at the far end of it is seen from the back pew by everyone who arrived on time.
Color in church light
Church light is low and comes from the side, and a black suit or tuxedo in it loses its edges. Charcoal keeps them. A white shirt is the brightest thing in the frame, which is where you want the eye to land.
The long walk
A long nave is a long walk, and all of it is trouser. It should break once, cleanly, on a shoe that’s been worn in, and the jacket should stay buttoned without pulling for the whole walk. Roman, master tailor at Lincoln Tailor, on site in our store, sets both.
Outside, on the lake
The photographs after the ceremony happen on forty acres of grounds by the water, in daylight, so the same charcoal that held its edges inside has to hold them in the sun. A wool from the Signature Wool tier, $259 to $299, does both. Bring the party in together and it goes on one order.
