St. Hugo of the Hills on Opdyke Road holds most of its weddings in the stone chapel, which seats 250, on Friday afternoons at four and on Saturdays at two and four. Friday is the interesting one. The groomsmen leave work at two, change in a car or a church anteroom, and stand up at the altar in a suit that has spent the day in a garment bag on a hook.
A suit that travels
Some cloth arrives creased from a garment bag and some doesn’t. Tell the consultant the suit will spend Friday on a hook, and ask which wool on the rack shakes out by the time you’ve walked in from the car.
The shirt is the giveaway
A jacket hides a wrinkled shirt until the jacket comes off at the reception, and it will come off. Change the shirt. Bring a second one in the bag, and a collar that stands on its own so it does not need the tie to look finished.
Fit it before the week gets busy
A party that comes in together the month before gets one coordinated fitting. Roman, master tailor at Lincoln Tailor, on site in our store, sets the hems and sleeves, and basic work is often available the same day, depending on the garment and current workload.
