Taubman’s headquarters is at 200 East Long Lake, and Taubman runs shopping malls. If your suit works there, some of its afternoons are spent walking one: a parking deck, a food court, three floors of a property somebody is deciding about. It’s the opposite of a desk suit. It has to keep up.
Cloth that walks
Wool. Real wool, from the Signature Wool tier at $259 to $299, because it breathes on a walk and doesn’t hold the crease from the drive. Navy or charcoal. A shirt you can take the jacket off over without looking undressed.
Trousers cut for stairs
A desk trouser is fitted seated. This one gets fitted standing, with the break set for a shoe you can do a mile in and a rise that stays put on an escalator. Roman, master tailor at Lincoln Tailor, on site in our store, sets it that way if you tell him what the suit is for. Tell him.
Bring the shoe you walk in
Not the dress shoe in the closet. The one that has done a property. The hem is cut to that heel, and cut to the other shoe it’s wrong every day you actually wear it. Nobody on our floor is on commission, so if the suit you have only needs the hem, that’s what you’ll hear.
