Streetcars once ran from Detroit up Van Dyke, and the final stop was Ten Mile Road. Towns grow around the end of a line, because that’s where people get off, and Center Line is one of them. Everything about how a place shops is set by how people arrive and where they stop.
What the end of a line produces
Convenience retail, close together, serving people on foot who have just got off something. Excellent for daily needs and structurally unable to hold depth in any one category.
The category where depth is everything
Suits, because the thing that determines whether one is any good is whether your particular size is present. A shop cannot carry a 34 short and a 70 long and a portly range unless suits are the whole business.
Which is what the freeway replaced the streetcar for
Van Dyke connects to I-696 west, and at the Greenfield exit is a floor holding 32,000 suits with that full range on the rack, and Roman, master tailor at Lincoln Tailor, on site in our store, to finish whichever one fits.
Also for Center Line: Named for a Mayor of 1847. More on style consulting, or plan your visit to our Oak Park showroom.
