Crestwood High School was established in 1965 and Annapolis in 1967, two years apart in the same city. Between them they have now put something like sixty cohorts through a graduation, and across all of those years families have made the same purchase and the same single mistake.
The mistake, stated once
Buying a size up so it lasts. It is entirely well-intentioned and it has never worked, in any decade, for the same structural reason it doesn’t work now.
Why it can’t work
The shoulder. Every other measurement on a jacket can be adjusted afterward, and the shoulder cannot, so a jacket bought large is permanently wrong in the one place a tailor can’t reach. He doesn’t grow into it; he wears something ill-fitting until he stops wearing it.
What actually lasts
Buying the shoulder that fits now and having the rest adjusted as he changes. Sleeves, waist and hem all move, and Roman, master tailor at Lincoln Tailor, on site in our store, moves them; small jobs he can often do while you wait.
