An interview at Ford World Headquarters starts in a lobby that was built to make a point and ends in a room that wasn’t. The suit for that day is bought for the room: a table, a few chairs, an hour of sitting across from someone who will remember the collar if it lifts.
What the room sees
Sitting down. Almost every fault a suit has stays hidden while a man stands still and shows itself the moment he takes a chair, which is the position an interview is conducted in. Ask to be looked at seated before anything is decided.
Which suit
Navy or charcoal, plain, a white shirt. Signature Wool, $259 to $299, if this is the suit that will start the job as well as land it. An Everyday Classic, $139 to $159, is honest money for one interview, and its blend holds a press through the wait.
The week before
Come in early, not the night before. Roman, master tailor at Lincoln Tailor, on site in our store, can often do a hem while you wait, and anything bigger he quotes before he starts. Greenfield Road runs straight north from Dearborn to the showroom.
Also for Dearborn: Fordson, Since 1922: The First Suit for a Tractor. More on style consulting, or plan your visit to our Oak Park showroom.
