Book Tower on Washington Boulevard, designed by Louis Kamper, holds a 2,800-square-foot event space on its thirteenth floor beneath a glass skylight. Overhead daylight is a genuinely different medium from side light, and it does specific things to a man in a suit that nobody warns him about.
What comes from above
Shadow beneath everything horizontal. Under a skylight, the brow shadows the eyes, the shoulders shadow the chest, and any horizontal fold in a jacket casts a line across the body that isn’t there in ordinary light.
Which is why fit shows more here
A jacket with a slight ripple below the collar, invisible under normal lighting, becomes a dark horizontal line in a photograph taken under a skylight. That ripple is the commonest sign of a jacket that doesn’t match a man’s shoulder slope.
And it’s fixable
It’s a fitting problem rather than a spending one, and it’s the sort of thing found by trying a second jacket rather than accepting the first that closes. Roman, master tailor at Lincoln Tailor, on site in our store, handles what remains.
