The Costick Center at 28600 Eleven Mile Road is 67,000 square feet, and some of it is banquet rooms. An invitation to one of those rooms tends to arrive with a date, a time and no dress code, and a man reads that silence one of two ways. He guesses down and shows up in a sport coat among suits, or he guesses up and shows up in a tuxedo among sport coats. Both are avoidable.
A printed invitation is a suit
Nobody prints black tie by accident, so if the card doesn’t say it, it isn’t asked. A sport coat is for a card that says casual. The suit is the middle, and the middle is never wrong in a room you haven’t seen.
Which suit
Navy or charcoal, plain, a white shirt, a tie you’d wear to work. Signature Wool, $259 to $299, if this is the suit that’ll go to the next five of these. It usually is.
Fit it to the chair
A banquet is three hours sitting and ten minutes standing for a photograph, so the trousers have to hold at the waist and the jacket has to close when you stand up. Ask to be checked sitting. Then Roman, master tailor at Lincoln Tailor, on site in our store, hems to the shoes you’ll wear there.
