Heritage Park is 211 acres on Farmington Road between Ten and Eleven Mile, and about 750,000 people walk it in a year. In October some of them are a family with a photographer, who has registered with the city first, as the park requires. The father is the only one in the picture who has to decide what a suit does against bark and leaves, and most decide wrong. They wear charcoal.
Navy, against the trees
Charcoal goes flat against a tree trunk; the two are nearly the same color. Navy separates from the trunk and the leaves, and it sits well beside whatever the rest of the family wears. A white shirt. A tie in one of the leaf colors if you want one, or none.
The cloth in October
An October afternoon in a park is cool and the light is low, so a cloth with some surface to it reads better than a flat one. Signature Wool, $259 to $299, in a navy with a little texture. Ask for it that way.
Standing on grass
Portraits among trees are taken standing, and standing is where the shoulder and the sleeve show. Both get set at the mirror, and Roman, master tailor at Lincoln Tailor, on site in our store, hems to the shoes you’ll stand on grass in. From the park it’s I-696 east, off at Greenfield, first light south.
