Highland Park High School went up as a single building in 1915. By 1916 it had already exceeded its limit, and a second building was put up next door in 1917, opening in September 1918 as a girls’ high school with total enrollment then at 1,525. The people who sized the first building were not careless. Growth simply outran the estimate.
Families make the same estimate every June
They buy a first suit a size up because the boy is growing, reasoning exactly as a school board reasons about a building. The difference is that a school can add a wing and a jacket cannot add a shoulder.
Which is the whole point
The shoulder seam is the one part of a jacket no tailor can move. A suit bought big is permanently wrong in the only place that can’t be corrected, and it stays wrong for however long he wears it.
What can grow with him
Sleeves, waist and length, all of which Roman, master tailor at Lincoln Tailor, on site in our store, can adjust as he changes. Buy the shoulder that fits this June, in an Everyday Classic at $139 to $159 while he’s still moving, and let the rest follow.
