Construction of the Highland Park plant began in 1908 on sixty acres, and Model T production moved there from Piquette Avenue in 1910. That’s two years of building something before it was needed, at a scale far beyond what the business then required. It looked extravagant and it turned out to be the reason the next decade was possible.
Almost nobody does this with clothes
Men buy a suit when an occasion appears, which is to say under a deadline, with no time to compare and no slack for anything the fitting turns up. It is the worst possible circumstance for a purchase that lasts a decade.
The alternative costs nothing extra
Buy the suit before there’s a reason. One navy suit, chosen unhurriedly, fitted properly, hanging ready. The money is the same and the result is better, which is unusual.
What the slack buys
Room for the alteration that turns out to be bigger than a hem. When that happens, Roman, master tailor at Lincoln Tailor, on site in our store, quotes the job and confirms the completion date before he starts, and with no occasion yet on the calendar, whatever date he gives is a comfortable one.
